The Lucy Quarrier Weavers
The Lucy Quarrier Weavers was established in 1977 under the direction of Miss Lucy Quarrier. Miss Quarrier was renowned for teaching weaving and other crafts throughout Appalachia during the Depression era and later continued her instruction at the Garnet Career Center. Her passion for the craft and commitment to sharing her knowledge created a lasting legacy that continues to influence the group's activities.
Today, the group is composed of both new and experienced weavers who are devoted to upholding Miss Quarrier’s legacy. The members are known for their friendly and supportive nature, always willing to assist one another with both technical and artistic challenges. Their collective knowledge and experience make the group a valuable resource for anyone interested in weaving.

The Lucy Quarrier Weavers maintain a dedicated studio in South Charleston. This space is fully equipped with looms and provides a welcoming environment for those who wish to develop or enhance their weaving skills. The group actively encourages new members to join as loom space becomes available, ensuring that the tradition of weaving continues to thrive in the community.
The Historic Glenwood Foundation values its friendship with the Lucy Quarrier Weavers.
We are delighted to once again welcome members of their group to participate in Glenwood’s Holiday Open House.
During the event, you will find members of the Lucy Quarrier Weavers stationed near Miss Lucy’s loom, located upstairs at Glenwood. They will be available and eager to answer any questions you may have about weaving. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with these knowledgeable and passionate artisans.
