A capacity crowd gathered at Historic Glenwood on Sunday, September 27, 2026, for a presentation by Dr. Billy Joe Peyton titled “Better Homes for Less Money: Kit Houses of Charleston.”

Dr. Peyton provided an overview of the various companies from which kit houses could be ordered and presented numerous examples illustrating the available architectural styles and price ranges. He also explained how the kits were delivered and subsequently assembled by individuals with typical handyman skills.

Many of these homes remain standing throughout the Charleston area, and the audience was captivated by photographs of these historic structures.
