WV Day at Historic Glenwood, 2025
June 20th, 2025

June 20, 2025 brought perfect weather for West Virginia Day and Glenwood’s annual open house on Charleston’s west side. Around seventy-five guests toured the elegant antebellum mansion, many for the first time, and enjoyed live demonstrations of weaving and spinning.

Barbara Smith and the Lucy Quarrier Weavers showcased their skills, letting visitors try weaving themselves, while master spinner Benjamin Randolph demonstrated on several spinning wheels—including Miss Lucy’s antique wheel and his own “Absolem”—highlighting both tradition and innovation in fiber arts.
On the back porch, guests enjoyed refreshments served by volunteer Carter Sharp and lively old-time music performed by Sam Hickman and other FOOTMAD (Friends of Old Time Music & Dance) musicians, making for a memorable celebration. Glenwood’s back porch & the beautiful weather created the perfect setting for an enjoyable afternoon.
West Viriginia Day is always a special occasion at Historic Glenwood. Make plans to attend our next open house!
