Kemp W. Winfree

1942 - 2024
Mr. Kemp W. Winfree played a pivotal role in the development and progress of the Historic Glenwood Foundation. His commitment was vital to the preservation, maintenance, and management of the Glenwood Estate, ensuring its continued legacy as a historic landmark.
Dedicated to the cause of higher education, Mr. Winfree earned his bachelor's degree from Morris Harvey College, now known as the University of Charleston. He further advanced his academic credentials by obtaining master's degrees in counseling, divinity, and business administration, reflecting his broad interests and expertise.
Throughout his career, Mr. Winfree served as Director of Development at the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies and later as Vice President of the Marshall University Graduate College in Charleston. He collaborated closely with Miss Lucy Quarrier during the period when she was making decisions about the future of her family home, Glenwood.
For more than forty-five years, Kemp Winfree remained steadfast in his dedication to the Glenwood Estate. His unwavering focus on the property's best interests has resulted in the beautifully maintained and historic estate that stands today, known as “Glenwood.”
